Lining of shafts with polyurethane

Poly Pro offers a new service: polyurethane shaft lining.

Lining is the application of a wear-resistant material to the surface of shafts, drums, rollers, ball mills, and similar metal parts. This protects them from damage, both mechanical and corrosive, and also provides damping properties. This coating can be made with rubber, which is then called gumming. PolyPro offers shaft restoration using polyurethane.

Polyurethane lining of drums, rollers, and the like is superior to rubber lining because polyurethane's strength and wear resistance are 2-4 times greater than those of rubber at the same hardness. Depending on the application, a polyurethane damping coating with a hardness of 50-95 Shore A, similar to rubber, can be produced.

Advantages and Price

Most of the cost of a production shaft is the manufacture of its metal core. Applying a rubber coating is not that expensive. However, when the lining wears out, the plant is forced to purchase a new shaft assembly. This can cost tens to hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.

However, significant savings can be achieved without sacrificing quality by removing the old coating and applying a new damping layer. Such a refurbished shaft will cost several times less than a new one. And if the lining is made of polyurethane, it will last even longer. Furthermore, returning a refurbished shaft to production can be faster than ordering and delivering a new part, saving you time. The specific price of the lining depends on the product size.

It is important to understand that thanks to PolyPro technology, developed over more than 10 years, you receive a product whose physical and mechanical properties are not inferior to the original shaft.

Process

To achieve a strong connection between the metal and polyurethane parts, Poly Pro specialists perform 6 important steps:

  1. The old coating is removed from the shaft received for restoration on a lathe.
  2. The shaft is cleaned using a sandblaster.
  3. The metal surface is thoroughly degreased.
  4. A special primer is applied, which allows for reliable adhesion of the polymer to the metal.
  5. An excess layer of polyurethane is applied to the shaft and left until the damping layer hardens.
  6. On Excess polyurethane is trimmed off on a lathe to achieve the customer's specified size and shaft alignment.

The result is a monolithic structure that performs as well as the factory shaft.

The turnaround time for this type of work is from 5 days, including the time it takes to transport the shaft by the shipping company in both directions.

The crankshaft damper pulley is designed to dampen the engine's mechanical impact during start-up, as well as to cushion the crankshaft under cyclic loads. It's the elastic layer between the pulley's metal parts that performs this function, and therefore experiences enormous loads. Considering temperature fluctuations and the effects of aggressive automotive chemicals, it's clear that the rubber elastic element won't last long. Unexpected damage to the rubber part can completely disable the vehicle.

The original damper pulley is scheduled for replacement every 100,000-120,000 km. This can be challenging both with removing the old, tightly fitted pulley and installing the new one, as alignment must be maintained.

Can this type of repair be performed less frequently? Yes, if you buy a polyurethane crankshaft pulley instead of a rubber one.

Advantages of polyurethane:

  • 2-2.5 times more elastic and durable than rubber;
  • Resistant to abrasives;
  • Inert to aggressive substances;
  • Stable properties at both low temperatures and at 40⁰C.

Where can I buy polyurethane crankshaft damper pulleys?

PoliPro manufactures polyurethane crankshaft damper pulleys for all makes of car, including Ford Transit, Volkswagen T4, Lanos, Renault, VAZ 2110, and others.

Buy a damper pulley You can find crankshaft parts on this website, as well as through our official partners. For example, the price of a T4 crankshaft damper pulley at the beginning of 2020 was 1,000 UAH, which is significantly cheaper than other offers on the market.
